The Tennessee Department of Transportation will begin road work on State Route 8 on Sunday. The work will take place between Cherokee Boulevard and Dayton Boulevard, covering the area from Frazier Avenue to Signal Mountain Boulevard. Crews will work nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. to avoid daytime traffic, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
A $1.8 million road project is underway in collaboration with the City of Chattanooga and the City of Red Bank. The plan involves converting a four-lane road into a two-lane road with a center turn lane, on-street parking, and a bike lane. The project aims to improve safety and accessibility and is expected to be completed by October 31. During construction, drivers should expect lane closures and flaggers directing traffic, as reported by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation warns drivers to stay alert in construction zones, as work schedules may change due to weather. Travelers can check the Tennessee Department of Transportation SmartWay Map or call 511 for traffic updates. Drivers are also reminded not to use phones while driving and to follow the Move Over Law, which requires moving over for highway workers and emergency crews. Violating this law can result in a fine of up to $500 and up to 30 days in jail.
