A confrontation involving a stolen vehicle and gunshots occurred this past weekend in Springfield, leading to the arrest of a Connecticut man and the hospitalization of a teenager. According to the Springfield Police Department reports, the incident began when Anthony Kaponis alerted an officer that his vehicle had been stolen and was currently in pursuit. The situation quickly escalated when a gunshot was heard as police approached the stolen vehicle.
The driver of the stolen car, a 16-year-old boy, ran from the scene but later showed up at Baystate with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Kaponis, who had a gun but no Massachusetts license for it, was arrested. Police took his legally owned Connecticut gun. He’s facing several charges, including firing a gun within 500 feet of a building and carrying a loaded gun without a license, as reported by the Springfield Police Department.
37-year-old Kaponis now faces serious charges, including assault and battery with a firearm and attempted assault and battery with a firearm. Officers placed Kaponis under arrest, as per the Springfield Police Department.
