Conservation Corps North Carolina Crew 1 has spent the summer making meaningful improvements to Raleigh’s green spaces. As shared on the City of Raleigh website, the crew—made up of local youth—worked for four weeks across five different locations, taking on tasks such as surveying Ashe trees, restoring soil health, removing invasive plants, and maintaining trails.
At Dix Park’s Sunflower Field, the team refreshed the hammock grove with pine straw, creating a more inviting and comfortable space for visitors to relax during the summer bloom. Their work not only improved the appearance of these areas but also helped support the long-term health of the environment.
While their work is hands-on and short-term, the results contribute to the continued vitality and accessibility of Raleigh’s public parks. By involving youth in these projects, the program also helps build skills and awareness for future conservation efforts.
