A DeKalb County community is grappling with shock and grief following a fatal shooting that occurred last Saturday morning. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Peachwood Circle around 7 a.m., where they discovered a man in his 40s suffering from gunshot wounds. The man, later identified as 47-year-old Kirwin Hinds, succumbed to his injuries.
Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the shooting. Otis Blakes, 33, faces murder charges, and Christopher Blakes, 28, is charged with simple battery, after both were apprehended by law enforcement. Both men remain in DeKalb County jail; however, the relation between them, if any, has not been clarified by officials, as shared by the same FOX 5 Atlanta report.
The incident took place at the Haven on Peachwood apartments, a site where, according to Channel 2, occurrences like the booting of vehicles for unauthorized parking are not uncommon. One resident, Necey Lewis, shared her distress with Channel 2, stating, "It’s really sad someone was just doing their job, you see them out a lot. I just hate it happened, if it came to that." The investigation remains ongoing as authorities piece together the events that led to Hinds' death.
