The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office is currently going through a period of bereavement, as they confirmed the loss of Deputy Antonio Aleman, who perished in an automobile accident while on duty earlier this week. Doña Ana County Public Safety reported the tragic incident, stating that Aleman's patrol vehicle collided with a semi-truck around 5 p.m. near the Avenida De Mesilla exit on Interstate 10, Tuesday afternoon. Despite being transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center, life-saving measures proved futile.
Aleman, aged 33, has served with the Sheriff's Office since April of 2021 and is remembered as a valuable member of the force. He is survived by his wife and two children. The announcement of his death was followed by a statement that Aleman will be escorted to the Office of Medical Investigators, and following that, returned home. The Sheriff's Office confirmed that DASO personnel would accompany Aleman until his interment, the details of which will be disclosed at a later date.
In the wake of this event, the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office has expressed appreciation toward multiple agencies for their support in light of the tragedy. Acknowledgement was given to Doña Ana Fire Rescue, New Mexico State Police Department, Border Patrol, Las Cruces Police Department, Las Cruces Fire Department, and other agencies statewide. In a time of loss and sorrow, the solidarity of sister agencies provides a semblance of comfort to a grieving law enforcement community.
