A tragic incident unfolded on Mohawk Street in Middletown, where a report of domestic violence escalated into an officer-involved shooting. In the wake of a 911 call, authorities rushed to the scene at approximately 4:42 p.m. on Sunday to find a tense standoff that would lead to two deaths. The fatal sequence of events began when Ronald Kerr, 60, allegedly shot his wife, Consuelo Kerr, 53, as later identified by the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Upon police arrival, the situation quickly deteriorated, with Kerr firing at officers, prompting them to respond in kind. Ronald Kerr was pronounced dead at the scene, reported FOX19.
Details reveal that officers attempted to negotiate with Kerr, only to see those efforts meet with violent resistance. Ronald Kerr discharged a firearm, not only putting his wife's life in peril but also aiming to decisively engage law enforcement. "He fired a shot into the body of the victim and then yes, he did fire a shot at police; That's what evidence is showing us right now," explained Dan Hils of Frontline Advisors, according to the same FOX19 article. Remarkably, no officers were injured in the fatal exchange that resulted.
In statements obtained by LOCAL12, Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser emphasized the gravity of threatening police officers, stating, "You point that at a police officer in the performance of his duties, you are very likely to be shot. And if you are shot and killed, it will likely be ruled a justifiable homicide." This stern warning follows a pattern of similar officer-involved shootings in the area, marking a dark repetition of events for the community. The incident, like others before it, will be presented to a grand jury, a protocol Gmoser insists on for all officer-involved shooting cases, as noted in the LOCAL12 report.
A neighbor's 911 call captures the urgency of the moment. "Get the cops here now," the caller implored, a chilling testimony to the fear and danger present at the time. As the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation takes over the officer-involved shooting case, authorities continue to piece together the tragic events that led to the deaths of both Ronald and Consuelo Kerr. Individuals with information are being asked to reach out to aid the investigation, as reported by WLWT, who were given insights into the 911 calls surrounding the incident.
