A driver was arrested yesterday afternoon after a high-speed chase that ended in the South End of Boston. The incident began on Tremont Street, where the driver was initially stopped for possible automotive violations. During the attempted traffic stop, the driver allegedly took off, injuring a Boston police officer who was dragged momentarily and striking several vehicles. The chaos continued through multiple city blocks, with the suspect finally being apprehended on Plympton Street at Albany Street, according to a report by WCVB.
Witnesses reported the vehicle speeding with a "wobbly wheel" and eventually hitting multiple cars, a traffic control device, and a light pole before the pursuit ended. "It looked like it had been through a war," Joshua Paul, a local gym owner, said in a statement obtained by NBC Boston, describing the suspect's badly damaged vehicle.
The officer involved in the initial confrontation was evaluated at the scene but did not require hospitalization. A second officer from the starting point of the incident was taken to a local hospital for evaluation but was reported as uninjured. This was according to authorities. The Boston Police Department has a "no chase" policy, and the events leading to the driver's capture remain under scrutiny.
The suspect, who has not been identified by police, was also described as "peaceful" as she was put into an ambulance following her detention. "She could have killed somebody. Somebody on a bike lane or something, somebody walking. I mean, this is a biking and walking city," Paul said, highlighting the potential danger of the erratic driving incident. The Boston Police have not disclosed what charges the driver will be facing, as the investigation into the traffic stop and subsequent dangerous drive continues, as reported by WCVB.
