Rural Metro Fire was called to the scene of a car accident on Washington Pike near Luttrell Road. A single vehicle had, for reasons not yet clear, veered sharply off the road and collided with a building, resulting in significant structural damage and trapping the driver within the mangled remains of their car. Rural Metro Fire's social media post details the arrival of first responders at around 2:00 AM and outlines the measures taken to extract the injured driver from the wreck.
Upon arrival, the crew was confronted with a scene of devastation; the car was heavily damaged, and the impact likewise marred the building it struck. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was in serious condition and subsequently rushed to a trauma center for immediate attention. The fire department's post went on to remind the community to maintain caution on the roads, especially as the holiday weekend winds down, but we've yet to receive an update on the condition of the building's occupants, if there were any at that hour, or what might have caused the accident.
As the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, Rural Metro Fire urges community members to contact them if they're interested in learning how they can support or partner with the department to enhance safety within Knox County. They've provided a contact number: 865.371.7495.
