The Georgia Department of Corrections is welcoming a new face to the helm of operations at Jenkins Correctional Facility, as they announced the promotion of Edwina Johnson to Regional Operations Coordinator, a position set to commence on Wednesday, according to a recent statement. Johnson, who has been serving as a Private Prison Monitor at Coffee Correctional Facility, will be tasked with ensuring the facility's adherence to contract conditions and maintaining standards of sanitation, safety, and security.
In a journey through the Georgia correctional system that began in 1988, Johnson has worked her way up through various roles, first as a Case Manager with the Department of Family and Children Services before transitioning to the Department of Corrections in 2000. Career advancements came as she proved her leadership capabilities, taking on responsibilities as Counselor, Chief Counselor, Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, and eventually reaching her current post at Coffee CF; effective leadership and dedication to her responsibilities were key factors in her steady rise, Commissioner Tyrone Oliver expressed confidence in her abilities as he lauded her, "Edwina has proven herself to be an effective leader throughout her tenure with the department," as per the Georgia Department of Corrections official announcement.
Johnson's educational background includes an associate’s degree in education from Brewton Parker Jr. College and a bachelor's degree in sociology from Savannah State College, complemented by a range of departmental trainings encompassing counselor training, correctional officer training, and upper management programs.
