El Paso authorities are enforcing a harder stance against environmental misdemeanors, as two individuals were recently apprehended for casting aside waste on private land. A post from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Facebook page reports that Jose Javier Blanco, 28, and Krystal Marie Zavala, 35, were charged with illegal dumping on Saturday.
According to the social media announcement by Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, deputies responded to a call near the intersection of Bret Harte and Notre Dame around 2:00 p.m. There, they found a Ford F-150 truck in the throes of discarding approximately 12.9 cubic feet of trash, which had been sourced from a side job. The debris, unlawfully deposited on non-designated private territory, led to the apprehension of Blanco and Zavala.
The perpetrators are facing charges for Illegal Dumping >5 lbs <500 lbs or >5 gal <100 cu ft and have been taken to the El Paso County Detention Facility. Bonds were set at $500.00 each as they await further proceedings. This incident spotlights the broader issue of waste management and the illegal disposal of refuse that plagues many communities.
