El Paso County Sheriff's detectives have wrapped up a months-long theft case with the arrest of a suspect for the heist of a high-dollar welder. According to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte in a social media post, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office took 20-year-old Dean Winslow Crawford into custody, correlating with an investigation into the October 2024 theft of the welding equipment, valued at over $10,000.
The apprehension followed a deliberate surveillance and information-gathering mission that commenced after the East Montana Patrol Station received a tip regarding the whereabouts of the stolen machinery. Detectives, having laid the groundwork for identifying a suspect and potential hideouts for the stolen goods, recovered the welder and arrested Crawford yesterday near Montana Avenue and Mescalero Drive.
Dean Winslow Crawford is now facing felony theft charges, being booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility, and a bond set at $7,500. The Sheriff's Office declared its ongoing commitment to maintaining community safety and bringing perpetrators to account. The recovered property was promptly returned to its rightful claimant, closing the loop on an almost year-long ordeal for the unnamed owner.
