El Paso County has found itself grappling with an environmental and legal issue, as the owner of a local disposal company has been arrested for unlawful waste disposal. According to a social media post by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, deputies discovered a significant illegal dumping site on June 23 in the county, prompting a thorough investigation by local authorities. The dump site, located on a private lot, contained over 200 cubic feet of waste, an eyesore, and a potential public health concern.
The inquiry, led by the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station Criminal Investigations Division, spanned several days and eventually pointed to Abraham Ryan Romero, 44, as the responsible party for jeopardizing the cleanliness of El Paso's landscape. Romero, whose livelihood comes from operating Road Runner Disposal, apparently did not live up to the environmental stewardship his industry requires. He was detained and faced charges of Illegal Dumping Over 1,000 Pounds or Over 200 Cubic Feet, a criminal offense in the state of Texas.
The Sheriff's Office not only handled the arrest but also took the incident as an opportunity to educate the public on the legal consequences of illegal dumping. "Sheriff Oscar Ugarte reminds the public that illegal dumping is a criminal offense in the State of Texas and urges residents to report any suspected dumping activity to their local law enforcement agency," as per the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
