The El Paso Police Department detailed the harrowing incident, which took place in a residence on the 9500 block of North Loop Drive. Officers entered the home and were confronted by Victor Enrique Mariscal, armed and dangerous with two knives in hand.
According to the El Paso Police Department, the situation escalated quickly, resulting in officers using a Taser on Mariscal. However, the attempt to subdue him with less lethal means was not successful; the officers discharged their firearms in response to the continued threat. Mariscal survived the ordeal, was treated at a local hospital, and upon release, he was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
