Heads up, Howard County travelers: a segment of Missouri Route 5 is going under the knife for a quick but necessary fix tomorrow. According to MoDOT, an emergency culvert replacement is due to shutter a stretch of the road between New Franklin and Fayette, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow.
The affected area spans from County Road 426 to County Road 320, while local residents will still have access to their driveways others passing through will have to chart a new course during these hours, the department is making efforts to minimize disruption but sometimes these closures are just part of the deal when it comes to maintaining our infrastructure. MoDOT says all scheduled work is at the mercy of the weather, and thus, subject to change.
The department is asking that all motorists play their part for the safety of the workers and other road users by adhering to a few simple rules: buckle up, phones down, observe all posted signs, and especially in these work zones, slow down and give room to those on site, doing the heavy lifting for the community.
