Yesterday, the Falmouth Police Department had its hands full with two serious motor vehicle accidents, leaving residents injured and authorities piecing together the events. The first incident occurred near the Falmouth District Court on Jones Road, where a 44-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle, as per a social media post by the local police department. The pedestrian, crossing outside of a marked crosswalk, was unable to evade an oncoming car and sustained serious injuries. Authorities dispatched to the scene found the victim conscious but in severe distress.
The Falmouth Fire and Rescue Department quickly provided medical aid before the individual was transported to St. Luke’s Medical Center in New Bedford. "The crash remains under investigation by a Falmouth Police Accident Reconstruction officer, with assistance from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations," reported the Falmouth Police Department's social media update.
Later that same day, disaster struck again in Falmouth. This time, the collision involved an electric bicycle (e-bike), and a motor vehicle at the intersection of Grand Avenue, and Central Park Avenue. The e-bike rider, a 15-year-old boy, was seriously injured in the accident. He received initial treatment at Falmouth Hospital and was then airlifted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.
Investigations indicated that neither the vehicle nor the e-bike yielded at the four-way stop. The teen remains in stable condition following the airlift, with the motor vehicle operator fully cooperating with the officials on the scene. The circumstances leading up to the accident are still being scrutinized, "The crash was investigated with support from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations," as acknowledged by the police department in their announcement.
