Yesterday, tragedy struck on State Route 24 in Lafayette as a solo vehicle crash claimed the life of an adult male driver. According to a social media post from the California Highway Patrol's Contra Costa Area office, the crash occurred just west of Pleasant Hill Road. It involved a black Toyota sedan that veered off the road and collided with multiple trees. CHP Contra Costa responded to the scene at approximately 4:15 AM, with the investigation ongoing as to why the vehicle left the roadway.
The collision resulted in fatal injuries for the driver, who was the sole occupant of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, as officers work to determine whether impairment was a contributing factor. However, DUI has not been ruled out as part of the cause for the accident; the investigation remains active with the CHP seeking any witnesses to the incident or the events leading up to it.
Authorities are reaching out to the public for help in piecing together the details that led to the fatal event, urging anyone with information to contact the Contra Costa Area office in Martinez. The CHP has provided the phone number (925) 646-4980, and also encourages email contacts to [email protected] for potential witnesses to contact the investigating officer.
