Minneapolis is hosting a wet and wild movie night that promises to be a splash hit for families looking to cool off this summer. According to an announcement by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, a free screening of the Pixar hit "Finding Nemo" will take place at Jim Lupient Water Park.
Setting the scene on Monday, July 21, the event will offer attendees a chance to enjoy the film while floating in the pool, cause let's be honest, indoor air conditioning can only do so much in the throes of July's swelter. Doors swing open at 8:15 pm with the movie starting its cinematic swim at 8:50 pm, but given the event's popularity, early arrival is recommended for a good spot and to keep the experience as streamlined as a school of fish in the open ocean.
The family-friendly event comes with a few ground rules to ensure a safe and pleasant evening for all. For those planning to attend, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board stipulates that appropriate swim attire is required for water activities, and only U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets are allowed – thankfully, these can be provided by the water park itself. Plus, there's the mandatory swim diaper or plastic pants for the littlest swimmers not yet potty trained, fortunately, without the hassle of additional disposable or cloth diapers playing any part in this aquatic attire.
Ditching the popcorn for poolside snacks is permitted, as long as visitors stick to food and drinks (sans glass or alcohol) in the designated picnic areas; breaking out a glass bottle or your BYOB spirits is a definite no-go, so don't even think about sneaking in contraband libations. Parents and guardians, take note – if you're in charge of youths aged 9 to 12, you'll need to be an 18+ adult and have them in your sights, and for those with kids 8 and under, arm's length supervision in the water is a must, and they're definitely counting on you embracing that 1 adult to 4 children ratio for tots 12 and under; it's a safety measure that might as well be set in stone. And for everyone's lungs, Jim Lupient Water Park is keeping it smoke-free, no tobacco allowed.
If you still have questions or need more clarity on the do’s and don'ts, they've got you covered with a contact line at 612-230-6400 or an open email at [email protected] – because sometimes an FAQ just doesn’t cut it compared to a real human response. Mark your calendars, and get those swimsuits ready for a movie night that's sure to make a splash!
