Residents of Antioch were jolted awake just after midnight yesterday by what would soon be confirmed as an explosion caused by fireworks. According to a press release by the Antioch Police Department, multiple calls were poured into the dispatch center around 12:18 AM, reporting the incident on the 2200 block of Spanos Street. Responding officers encountered a scene marked by chaos and injury, a stark reminder of the dangers inherent in pyrotechnics mishandled by celebrants.
The immediate response team, consisting of Antioch PD officers and crews from ConFire and AMR, administered medical aid and triaged the victims onsite. However, several injured parties had vacated the locale before assistance could arrive, opting for care at local hospitals instead. In a statement from the Antioch Police Department, "This is an unfortunate accident, and our thoughts are with the family and all those affected during this difficult time." The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as authorities endeavor to interview all involved individuals.
