Five men were wounded in a shootout on a Tower Grove South parking lot. The incident took place on the evening of July 17, around 7:07 p.m., on Morganford & Beck. When the officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the shooting had taken place in the 3700 block of Morganford at Beck, as per the latest report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The individuals involved, including a 23-year-old, a 19-year-old, a 24-year-old, and two 17-year-olds, each self-transported to hospitals after the incident, with gunshot wounds. Arriving at the hospitals, they presented a challenge for officials as all five men were found uncooperative. They refused to offer specifics regarding the shootout or divulge information about the shooter. Officers were notified while at the scene that the group of males had exchanged gunfire with each other when they were injured.
Upon review of the available surveillance, it became clear that the incident was a result of the men shooting at one another. The investigation is still active as officers continue their efforts to uncover the reasons behind the violence and to determine who initiated the dangerous exchange. The SLMPD statement noted that, "Officers are still working to determine the motive behind the incident and who initiated it."
Thankfully, none of the injuries sustained were fatal, with all five males currently recovering from non-life-threatening injuries. At this point in the investigation, police are not looking for additional suspects.
