Fort Lauderdale residents can expect to see some construction around NE 4th Avenue as the city prepares to enhance pedestrian safety with new lighting. Announced by the City of Fort Lauderdale, the upcoming project is slated to begin on August 4, targeting the area between Sunrise Boulevard and NE 13th Street. In collaboration with R&D Electric, Inc., the initiative is part of the Community Redevelopment Agency's ongoing Streetscape initiative, focusing on sidewalk and landscape improvements.
The project goes beyond simply installing light poles—it's about enhancing often-overlooked pedestrian pathways. A total of 11 concrete poles, each equipped with pedestrian light fixtures, are being installed as part of the initiative. Construction is scheduled on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with completion expected by mid-October. However, city officials note that the timeline may shift due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
"Access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times," as noted on the city’s site. While some disruptions are inevitable, officials urge motorists to follow posted signs and navigate the temporary traffic changes with caution. The City of Fort Lauderdale and its partners are working to minimize impacts as construction crews install foundations for new streetlights along the avenue, reinforcing their commitment to both progress and pedestrian safety.
