The City of Fort Lauderdale has teamed up with Southern Underground Industries, Inc. to give Sewer Pump Station A-20 a much-needed overhaul. Located along NW 12th Street, this particular pump station services South Middle River, an area in desperate need of infrastructure enhancements, according to the city's official announcement. Upgrades will include the installation of new pumps and electrical gear to monitor wastewater flow and station capacity, as well as the repair of the underground structures that quite literally keep the station standing.
Set to begin on July 28, the project aims to transform the aging station into a model of efficiency and dependability. But to truly finish the job, construction crews will be on-site weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the estimated completion date in the fall of 2026.
Traffic patterns in the area are set to take a hit as a result. NW 12th Street will be accessible solely for local traffic running from NW 1st Street to N. Andrews Avenue while the rest get rerouted along N. Andrews Avenue, NW 13th Street, NW 1st Avenue, and NW 11th Street. Drivers, heed the signs and keep the safety of the construction workers in mind. The city’s announcement implores residents to navigate these streets with extra caution during these times.
Neighborhood residents, meanwhile, are likely to experience some additional noise—this coming from the generator-powered temporary pump installed to keep their sewer services uninterrupted. The city has extended an olive branch in the form of patience and understanding requests as it aims to fortify the local infrastructure. Questions and concerns from residents can meanwhile be directed to Mark Roads, PE City of Fort Lauderdale Project Manager II, at 954-828-5859 or [email protected], or to the City of Fort Lauderdale Customer Service Center at 954-828-8000 or [email protected]. Detailed information is also available in the project flyer, as mentioned on the City of Fort Lauderdale website.
