According to a recent announcement by the Fremont Police Department on social media, a suspicious shooting claimed a life in the area of Northport Loop W. last Tuesday. The report disclosed officers arrived to find a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate medical assistance rendered on the scene and subsequent attention at a nearby hospital, the individual succumbed to the injuries.
Greg White, a 56-year-old resident of Fremont, was arrested at the scene, with the Fremont Police Department's social media post stating he faces a charge of murder under Penal Code 187(a). During the investigation, fifteen witnesses were interviewed, detectives reviewed surveillance and body-worn camera footage, and multiple search warrants were issued, leading to the discovery of a rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition in White’s RV.
The history between White and the victim appears to stretch back years, and the fatal encounter began with a verbal dispute that purportedly escalated when the victim brandished a copper pipe and, according to White, tried to carjack him, as detailed in the social media release by the police department. White claimed self-defense, stating he fired the weapon only after repeated warnings and the victim's advance towards him.
White awaits further legal proceedings at Santa Rita Jail while Fremont Police continue their appeal for additional information on the incident.
