The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently probing the circumstances surrounding the death of Diane Marie Jacob, a 48-year-old inmate who was being held at Coffee County Jail. Details reveal she was discovered hanging by a fellow inmate on the afternoon of June 7, at approximately 3:10 p.m., prompting immediate medical assistance from jail staff, and subsequently, EMS responders. Despite efforts to save her, Jacob later succumbed to her condition and passed away last Tuesday, July 8, as detailed by the GBI release.
Jacob, a resident of Douglas, GA, appears to have taken her own life based on preliminary findings, however, the official cause of death is pending an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's Office in Macon. The GBI, acting upon the request of the local sheriff's office is requesting that anyone with potentially relevant information come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
