A Gilmer County man is facing an expanded set of charges in a disturbing child sexual exploitation case. Ronald Richardson, 47, was indicted on July 8, by a Gilmer County Grand Jury on 120 counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children, a significant increase from the 76 counts he was initially charged with in April, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office.

The additional charges emerged as an ongoing investigation unearthed new evidence, leading to a grand jury presentation by the Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney. The indictment, which was filed last Friday, with over 100 victims identified both within the state and beyond. Richardson was first arrested on January 17, and has been in custody since that time.

This case is notable for the alleged use of artificial intelligence to transform standard photographs into child sexual abuse material, raising concerns about the intersection of emerging technology and criminal activity. The investigation is still active, and the District Attorney’s office has not ruled out the discovery of additional evidence or victims.

In February, the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia requested that the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office serve as the conflict prosecutor in the case. Richardson is expected to receive a schedule for his arraignment on the new charges, marking the next step in the legal process. Details of the indictment are available on PeachCourt.com and the GSCCCA eCertification Portal at ecert.gsccca.org. The District Attorney’s Office is asking anyone with information related to the investigation to come forward.
