A tragic boating accident on the East Upper Grand River in Iberville Parish claimed the life of a Gonzales woman. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported that Jennifer Harrison, age 56, was found deceased after an 18-foot vessel struck a log, throwing her and the operator into the water shortly before midnight last Friday.
The accident occurred near Plaquemine, with LDWF agents responding to a call around midnight about the single-vessel incident. Recovered from the river, the vessel's operator sustained injuries and was air lifted to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for treatment. While in the middle of the night, the body of Harrison was turned over to the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office to perform an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
The LDWF Enforcement Division is leading the investigation into this incident. At this stage, there has been no public disclosure regarding the use of personal flotation devices by Harrison or the operator during the time of the accident. With the details of the incident still unfolding, authorities have not released further information on the contributing factors that led to the collision with the log.
