Gov. Cox announced the appointment of Adam Stewart as the new director of federal affairs for the Governor's Office of Utah, a change set to take effect on August 25th. Stewart, who has a strong background in federal policy-making and legislative expertise, especially in areas that are critical to the Western states, is stepping into the role with a commendable track record.

Previously, Stewart served a valuable tenure for U.S. Sen. Lummis, leading a 14-member team and handling policy areas that included energy, environment, and financial services, as well as addressing important technological advancements in artificial intelligence and transportation. His prior experience includes a stint as the director of the Senate Western Caucus, working on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s Subcommittee on Fisheries, Water, and Wildlife, and nearly a decade of advising former Rep. Rob Bishop. As Bishop’s chief of staff, his work facilitated significant legislation on Colorado River management, the expansion of rural broadband, and the fortification of the nation’s highway infrastructure.

As obtained by the Utah Governor's Office, Stewart was praised by Gov. Cox for his intimate understanding of Western policy challenges and his skill in navigating the political environment of Washington. "Adam understands the West and knows how to get things done in Washington," said Gov. Cox, underscoring Stewart's potential to deliver more legislative victories for Utah.

Utah-born Stewart, who graduated summa cum laude from Utah State University with degrees in economics and law, and constitutional studies, and later secured a master’s degree in public policy from George Mason University, has expressed his eagerness to serve in his new capacity. "I’m honored by the governor’s confidence and eager to advocate for Utah’s interests at the federal level," Stewart conveyed, as per the Utah Governor's Office, elaborating on his commitment to work with leaders both in Utah and in the capital for the state's prosperity.
