Utah's judiciary is set to be shaped by a new hand as Gov. Spencer J. Cox has made his pick for the state's Third District Court. Amanda Montague, a seasoned figure in the legal landscape, steps up to the plate once her nomination garners the required approval from the Utah Senate.
With a background that spans two decades dedicated to navigating the justice system, Montague brings a breadth of experience to the potential judgeship. Her career has been marked by a commitment to ensure the system functions effectively for the populace, overseeing over 100 state entities as division director for State Agency Counsel in the Utah Attorney General’s Office. Not one to purely remain in the advisory shadows, she's also been actively involved with the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole, among other critical state bodies. Gov. Cox is confident that Montague's "steady hand and clear-eyed compassion" will be assets to the court, as he noted obtained by the Utah Governor's Office.
Indeed, Montague's legal pedigree is not in doubt. Before her leadership roles, she honed her skills clerking for judges, right where she aims to serve. It's a full-circle journey for someone who once provided support, now stepping to lead. Her resume is fortified by an education from BYU's J. Reuben Clark Law School, graduating cum laude, and an undergraduate history degree from Utah State University, also earned with distinction.
