A routine traffic stop conducted by the Hayward Police Department near a school zone resulted in an arrest for drug and weapons violations on Wednesday. Officers on patrol initiated the stop due to multiple vehicle code infringements, according to a social media post from the Hayward Police Department.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the Hayward police were immediately struck by the scent of marijuana. As they conversed with the driver, a conspicuous bag of marijuana was seen inside the car. A probable cause search led to the discovery of a digital scale, numerous clear press-lock bags, a loaded, unregistered handgun with an extended high-capacity magazine, a high-capacity rifle magazine, and several live rounds.
The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken into custody. They now face charges that include possession of marijuana for sale, carrying a firearm within a school zone, and several other firearm-related offenses.
