According to the official statement released by the Hayward Police Department, a 25-year-old female was discovered in a stairway after officers arrived on scene due to concerned reports. She alleged having been attacked by her boyfriend and stated that she had stabbed him in an act of self-defense.
Upon entering the apartment, law enforcement found a 30-year-old male, later identified as the boyfriend, unresponsive with a stab wound. They attempted to administer life-saving care, but unfortunately, emergency responders pronounced him deceased upon their arrival.
