A wrong-way driver in Heber City led to a confrontation with local police after causing a crash and then barricading himself inside his vehicle on Friday. According to ABC4, the incident began when 32-year-old Stockton Charles Harlow McBride drove at high speed into oncoming traffic and crashed into another vehicle before sealing himself off within his car.

Brought to a standstill, upon the arrival of police officers, McBride claimed possession of a gun and warned the officers to maintain their distance from his vehicle. Subsequently, additional police units were called to clear the involved roadway, and communication with the suspect was attempted through the use of a loudspeaker, as detailed by KUTV. Following negotiations, McBride exited his vehicle but continued to defy police instructions, prompting law enforcement to utilize a taser. Officers, while attempting to handcuff him, observed that McBride's arms were "extremely tense" and described his heart rate as "unusually high."

Investigations at the scene revealed the presence of drug paraphernalia inside McBride's vehicle, later testing positive for meth, as per KSLTV. Security footage was also reviewed by police, confirming the high-speed manner of driving by McBride and his failure to adhere to a stoplight.
