A tragic accident occurred Saturday morning near Bell's Canyon as a 49-year-old man lost his life after falling approximately 700 feet during a rock slide. Officials responded to the emergency around 8:45 a.m. following reports of a rock slide involving a lone hiker. KUTV reported that the hiker was descending from Pfeifferhorn, a remote peak in the Lone Peak Wilderness, when the slip occurred.

According to KSLTV, Arlan Bennett from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office stated that the man was hiking alone at the time of the incident. A doctor, who happened to be hiking in the vicinity, provided immediate aid. However, despite the doctor's life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Search and Rescue teams meticulously combed the site, confirming that no other individuals were seriously impacted in the rock slide. As reported by FOX 13 News, witness Damon Stewart suggested, "It can be pretty treacherous. When you go to the upper falls, you climb about 1,000 vertical feet in like 10 minutes." He speculated that rain from the previous night could've triggered the rock slide that proved fatal for the victim.
