In a recent event in Holyoke, a suspect was arrested after police responded to a gun call. Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan declared on Sunday, July 6th, that officers seized multiple firearm accessories and took into custody one Ryan Desjardins in connection with an armed individual report, according to the Holyoke Police Department's post. Around 7:20 p.m., the officers arrived at an apartment at 1159 Dwight Street following a report of an intoxicated person armed with a gun.
The subject wasn't present in his apartment when officers attempted to make contact. Shortly after, Captain Charles Monfett spotted an individual matching the description of the suspect outside. Officers Xavier DeJesus and Craig Zolendziewski approached the suspect, who was later identified as Ryan Desjardins. In a confrontation, Desjardins resisted and struck an officer, leading to a Taser deployment before he was eventually secured.
Desjardins was found with three outstanding warrants stemming from the Holyoke District Court, Northampton District Court, and Brockton District Court. Apart from the arrest warrants, he had two rounds of loose ammunition in his pocket. Holyoke Police Detectives then obtained a search warrant for Desjardins's apartment, where they discovered a firearm slide, four more rounds of ammunition, and a firearm frame with a grip. Another firearm magazine, allegedly belonging to Desjardins and capable of holding 21 rounds, was later recovered by officers.
The list of charges against the 38-year-old includes carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition without an FID card, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and assault and battery on a police officer. This news comes at a time when gun control continues to be a pressing concern in communities across the nation.
