On a recent Tuesday, Holyoke police officers, alongside the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, were dispatched to Cabot Street following reports of open-air drug dealing. Through cooperative efforts, law enforcement successfully apprehended two individuals suspected to be involved in the narcotic transactions. The arrests followed citizen complaints regarding the sale of controlled substances in the area, which has notably been a concern for local residents.
An officer identified a suspect who matched the details provided by Detective Joseph Emiterio. The suspect, Marta Rosado-Hernandez, was found engaging with two men, one of whom was known to police, the other being Jomar Munoz. Eyeing the suspects, Officers Justo Pagan and Xavier DeJesus observed Munoz quickly to try conceal a potato chip bag found to contain crack-cocaine. An attempt by Munoz to flee the scene after being handcuffed was swiftly quelled by officers on site.
The Holyoke Police Department's official social media post conveyed that a female officer was requested to search Rosado-Hernandez, during which seven bags of crack-cocaine were discovered on her person. Subsequently, both suspects were arrested on various charges, including possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate drug law. Munoz faces additional charges for resisting arrest and trespassing.
Seized during the bust were sums of money, amounting to $243 from Rosado-Hernandez and $155 from Munoz. According to the details released by the Holyoke Police Department, Munoz, 33, and Rosado-Hernandez, 40, will both be facing considerable legal challenges. The third individual present during the time of the incident has been released from the scene without charges.
Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan, in a statement regarding the arrests, emphasized the department's dedication to tackling the sale of narcotics in the community.
