
Yesterday, a post from the Oakland Fire Department reported a working structure fire in the 1600 block of 78th Avenue, engulfing a two-story residential duplex. As the blaze tore through the home, two ambulances were called to the scene to tend to the injured parties.
According to the Oakland Fire Department's social media update, the fire was "under control" at 11:14 PM. In the struggle to quench the flames, two dogs lost their lives, and one person sustained injuries severe enough to necessitate transportation by Falck ambulance service. Requested to support those displaced by the fire, Red Cross representatives were on the scene, woven into the fabric of first responders and aid workers.

About 30 firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, damaging the land and the community. While the property damage can be repaired, the emotional impact will last much longer. According to the fire department, the fire was caused by illegal fireworks.
