Earlier yesterday, the IMPD Northwest District Violent Crime Task Force arrested 22-year-old Laurens Jean Francois, a man they believe to be connected to a string of armed robberies throughout the area, according to an IMPD News social media post. The arrest came after detectives utilized surveillance camera footage and other investigative techniques to identify and apprehend Francois.

Investigators tied Francois to at least three incidents, the first of which occurred on the 3800 block of Moller Road, where a delivery driver was held at gunpoint and robbed of a phone and cash on July 19; then on N High School Road, where a business was relieved of nearly $2,000 by an armed suspect, just before the strike of midnight on July 22, and upon reviewing the surveillance footage detectives noticed similarities leading them to suspect a connection, the IMPD Robbery Unit began their investigation after these incidents.

In the following days, detectives assigned to the violent crime task force made significant headway in the case, ultimately observing Jean Francois entering a vehicle; a subsequent traffic stop not only resulted in Francois' arrest but also the discovery of a firearm in plain view, according to the IMPD report.

Upon securing a search warrant, detectives searched both the vehicle and Francois' residence, unearthing an array of incriminating items, including an AR15 pistol and ammunition, a black Nike ski mask, and a black Domino's Pizza delivery bag, the seizure of these items lending weight to the allegations against Francois, who now faces charges of armed robbery, though it's noted by IMPD that "an arrest is merely an accusation," and Francois is "presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law." The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will ultimately decide on the final charges.
