Authorities in Inkster are actively investigating a triple shooting that occurred last night. The incident took place near the intersection of Colgate Street and Inkster Road. According to The Detroit News, three individuals sustained injuries and were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
Following the shooting, law enforcement remained stationed at the crime scene past 9 p.m. A suspect was still at large, as reported around 7 p.m. by WXYZ, with authorities yet to release additional details surrounding the incident. A resident, who was in the bathroom getting dressed when the shooting happened, described the sounds as extremely loud, adding, "To be honest with you, it's kind of concerning just being that close to home," he told WXYZ.
The city's efforts to combat local crime and violence have been highlighted by initiatives involving state grants and community outreach. "We've been blessed to get a grant with the state police and been working hand in hand with Chief Jenkins there, which is have a summer camp going on in Inkster right now and we're teaching conflict resolution there," violence prevention advocate Darryl Woods expressed in a statement obtained by WXYZ. Woods, who is involved with several nonprofits including Fighting the Good, is focused on presenting alternatives and opportunities to Inkster's youth.
As the community reels following the shooting, local leaders hope to intensify their efforts to curtail violence, emphasizing long-term solutions and support. "We want to be able to continue to work with the people in Inkster and be able to work with the drivers of violence there and say hey there's a better solution," Woods conveyed to the public, as noted by WXYZ.
