An inmate at the Shelby County Jail in Memphis, identified as Rockez McDaniel, aged 33, has passed away under unclear circumstances, prompting an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). Action News 5 reports that McDaniel's death occurred while he was in custody, with the cause of death yet to be determined pending an autopsy.
Arrested last Sunday, July 20, for charges including evading arrest and escape, McDaniel's bond had been set at a mere $1,000, the Shelby County Jail located at 201 Poplar recognized as the place where his life came to an end but how and why this transpired remains shrouded in mystery almost a week after his arrest according to details obtained by WREG. The TBI has taken up the mantle to uncover the events leading to his demise, persisting in this investigation to ensure clarity and justice might someday be gleaned.
While the TBI has remained tight-lipped about the specifics, the Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy prompted their involvement, a cue that the circumstances of McDaniel's death demand closer examination, as reported by FOX13 Memphis. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office conveyed to FOX13 that a "medical emergency" befell McDaniel at approximately 7:13 p.m. yesterday, following which he was hurried to Regional One Health by Memphis Fire Department paramedics, where he was pronounced dead.
