A man was fatally shot by Jacksonville police during a tense domestic disturbance last night. The incident, which left two officers with minor injuries, occurred when Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call at approximately 11:20 p.m. at a house in the 12500 block of Brahma Bull Circle West, Action News Jax reported.
Upon entering the residence, officers encountered what Police Chief Alan Parker described as "loud, frantic screaming" coming from a locked room. Forced to kick down the door, they discovered a chaotic scene: a man was holding a pregnant woman by the hair while she clutched a young child. The officers utilized a taser in an attempt to free her. According to First Coast News, efforts to pacify the assailant extended over 30 to 45 minutes.
During the confrontation, the man reportedly became aggressive, attacking the officers and instigating a struggle that culminated in his shooting by police, as detailed by First Coast News. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The identity of the man has not been released by the police.
JSO officials have yet to determine the exact nature of the suspect's behavior during the episode. "They couldn't really make sense of it. He's continuing to eat this lady's hair that he had ripped out during the fight inside the room," Parker told reporters in a statement obtained by News4Jax. The man's confrontation with the responding officers and his subsequent death are under investigation.
