The Georgia Department of Corrections has recently appointed a new Warden to the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP), the agency reported. Starting July 16, Jacob Beasley, who currently serves as Warden at Smith State Prison, will be assuming the role of Warden at GDCP, where he will be overseeing around 3,704 male inmates and a team of dedicated staff members.
During his tenure as a corrections professional, Beasley's career trajectory illustrates a steady rise through the ranks. Having started as a Correctional Officer at Rogers SP in 2007, he quickly climbed the ladder – destiny had him promoted to Sergeant just two years later. According to the GDC's official announcement, after his brief leave, the GDC welcomed back Beasley in 2016, renewing his journey, which saw him escalate from Lieutenant at Telfair SP to Deputy Warden of Security and, soon after, to Warden at several institutions.
Commissioner Tyrone Oliver, reflecting on the decision, seems to indicate that the GDC has made a thoughtful choice. "Jacob has been an exceptional leader and dedicated staff member throughout his career with the GDC," he said in the formal announcement. "We are confident that he will lead with integrity and continued dedication as he begins his tenure as Warden at GDCP." Beasley's credentials, including completion of multiple training programs such as Basic Correctional Officer Training and Warden’s Pre-Command, reinforce Oliver's confidence.
Beasley's past postings have not only taken him to various facilities but also entrusted him with varying levels of responsibility. Successfully having managed the security operations as Chief of Security at Valdosta SP, he was then appointed to the sensitive role of Deputy Warden of Security at Hays SP—a similar shift that saw him re-assigned as the Acting Warden at Valdosta SP in 2022.
