A juvenile has been arrested by Memphis Police in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month. The Memphis Police Department disclosed, via social media, that officers responded to reports of the shooting at 2032 Chelsea Avenue on the night of June 14. The victim, a male, was critically injured and later pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
Following the incident, homicide investigators determined a 17-year-old male to be the suspect. According to the Memphis Police Department's post, "a warrant was issued for his arrest, charging him with First Degree Murder." On Monday, a stolen Chevrolet Camaro led to a law enforcement operation involving the Auto Theft Task Force, the Appling Farms Task Force, and the Shelby County Sheriff's BRAT. It was during this operation that the juvenile suspect was apprehended, among others, at a residence on Sunrise Street.
Charges for First-Degree Murder have been formally filed against the 17-year-old, though his identity has not been disclosed due to his status as a minor. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address violent crime in a Memphis community frequently confronting the challenges of youth involvement in serious offenses.
