The National Weather Service in Knoxville warns of heated days ahead for residents of East Tennessee, with heat index values expected to reach up to 107 degrees through Wednesday evening. In response, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EDT/6 PM CDT. The sweltering conditions come with a high degree of humidity, potentially causing heat-related illnesses for those without proper precautions.
Heavy with the promise of thunderstorms and the potential for hazardous weather conditions, the forecast for the coming days varies. Today, there lies a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 pm, with mostly sunny skies before disgruntled clouds roll in. Tranquilized with no wind to speak of, yet the semblance of calmness could give way to strong gusty winds up to 50 mph, should any vigorous storms arise. Localized heavy rainfall and flash flooding round off the trifecta of weather risks outlined by the NWS.
The outlook extends beyond today, as the NWS Morristown's Hazardous Weather Outlook alludes to continuous threats of isolated flash flooding and robust gusty winds through Thursday and Friday. This warning comes amid rising chances of precipitation as a cold front inches toward the region. "The best chances are across the east TN and southwest NC mountains," per the latest update.
As temperatures climb, the advisories stress the importance of taking measures to stay cool. "Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," affirms the Heat Advisory. The occupational sector isn't exempt from the scorching heat either. With outdoor work becoming a challenge, it's recommended that workers schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. "Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1," the advisory concludes.
In tandem with the blistering heat, the evening hours offer scant reprieve, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms looming mainly before 3 am tonight. The subsequent days oscillate between chances of daytime showers and nighttime thunderstorms, signaling a pattern of intermittent rainfall and tempestuous activity. According to the extended forecast, this unsettled weather pattern is expected to persist, with daily chances for rain and thunderstorms continuing into the beginning of next week.
