Knoxville residents are bracing themselves for a sweltering day ahead as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown has issued a heat advisory in effect until this evening. Tennesseans are warned of heat index values that could climb up to 107 degrees. According to the NWS Morristown, areas under this heat advisory include Anderson, Roane, Loudon, Knox, among others, emphasizing the risk of heat-related illnesses due to the extreme humidity and high temperatures.
The weather forecast also brings news of potential thunderstorms, with a 30 percent chance of showers specifically after 3:00 p.m. today. The humidity, steadfast at 100 percent, and calm wind conditions set the stage for what could be oppressive heat across the central Tennessee valley and southeast Tennessee, according to the NWS Knoxville report. Residents should stay hydrated, seek shade, or air-conditioned spaces to avoid the perils of heatstroke.
Weather services also warn of scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the week. NWS Morristown places the chance of precipitation on Wednesday at a stark 70 percent, potentially bringing localized heavy rains, which could result in flash flooding and strong gusty winds up to 50 mph with the stronger storms. As storms are expected almost every day for the rest of the week, individuals should remain vigilant for severe weather conditions and possible disruptions.
