Two young males found themselves in the grip of the law following a rapid response by the Knoxville Police Department to a reported vehicle burglary on State Street. Just before 9:00 PM yesterday, the alert came through; suspects were possibly breaking into cars in the downtown confines of the State Street Garage, as detailed by the Knoxville Police Department.
Upon their dash to the scene, officers encountered two individuals, young in years but laden with intention, faces concealed by ski masks, backpacks slung over their shoulders. The suspects chose flight over surrender, darting through the shadows of the parking lot – a scene unfolding with a speed that could only precipitate capture or escape. The former was their fate; a 16-year-old was halted on State Street, the other, a year his junior, not far on Summit Hill Drive, as per the official account.
The backpacks, it seems, were troves of the night’s undertakings: over 160 grams of marijuana, divvied into individual packets ready for whatever purpose; the accessories that go hand in hand with such goods; possessions purloined from within the confines of an automobile, among them a debit card that found its way back to its rightful owner. These discoveries led to the young men’s arrest, the charges against them ranging from vehicle burglary to evasion of arrest.
