In the early hours of July 11, the streets of La Vergne transformed into an illegal racetrack when three Dodge Chargers were spotted drag racing by local law enforcement. According to the La Vergne Police Department's social media post, the incident was promptly addressed, with charges and a firearm recovery underscoring the event's severity.
Officer Gad, on patrol at approximately 3:00 AM on Waldron Road, took notice of the trio of Chargers, managed to record their license plates, and initiated a pursuit when the racers accelerated away. The chase culminated on Glochester Court, a dead-end street, where two vehicles were contained. One offender surrendered immediately, the other, after a fleeting attempt to escape, was also apprehended. The turned chase demonstrates the risks that come with such high-speed recklessness on public roads.
Back-up arrived quickly with Officers Jager, Theide, Cunningham, and Scott responding to the call. In what unfolded as a brusque moment of law meeting defiance, the officers ended the pursuit safely and took the drivers into custody. The discovery of a firearm during a vehicle search added gravity to the charges against the drivers, who are now facing consequences for drag racing, felony evading, and potentially more in relation to the firearm found.
"Let this serve as a clear reminder: reckless driving and illegal street racing will not be tolerated in the City of La Vergne," the authorities declared in the social media post. Both drivers involved in the illegal act have been booked into the Rutherford County Jail, pending further investigation and legal proceedings. The La Vergne Police Department has reasserted its commitment to road safety and vigilance against such activities, reminding the public that legitimate outlets, such as legal tracks, are the only suitable venues for racing.
