
A tragic event unfolded on a highway in Lake County, Oregon, where a fatal collision claimed the life of a commercial vehicle driver. According to a statement released by the Oregon State Police, the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 3:49 p.m.
As reported, a white Mercedes Sprinter van driven by Daniel Klinkert, 48, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was traveling eastbound on Highway 140. Klinkert’s vehicle, near milepost 1, entered the intersection and was confronted by a southbound commercial motor vehicle. Nicholas Cardoza, 61, who hailed from Lakeview and was at the helm of the red Kenworth commercial vehicle towing double trailers, made an evasive maneuver that led to his vehicle veering off the road and rolling over.
The aftermath of the crash saw the unfortunate passing of Cardoza, who was pronounced dead at the scene, as per state police. Meanwhile, Klinkert, the operator of the Mercedes van involved in the crash, emerged without injury. The highway faced closures for an estimated six hours while authorities conducted on-site investigations into the circumstances of the collision.
Several agencies arrived at the scene to assist Oregon State Police, including the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Lakeview EMS, and the fire departments from Lakeview and Thomas Creek-Westside. While the investigation into the crash remains ongoing, the police have not released further details surrounding the cause. There's an ongoing expectation for additional information as the investigation progresses.
