Commuters in Jefferson Davis Parish, take note: the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development it's rolling out lane closures that could impact your drive. Drivers should prepare for the left lane of Interstate 10 Westbound to be off limits from Milepost 45 to Milepost 66 starting at 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. today, July 9, and again tomorrow, July 10. The reason? Crews are setting up to spray herbicides along the median, an effort that will move to I-10 Eastbound once the westbound side is complete.
But it's not just about keeping the median neat. The DOTD says these closures are critical for safety and the smooth continuation of this maintenance work. For those on the road, it means you’ll have to factor in some extra time and keep a sharp lookout for workers and their equipment. And it’s not just drivers who need to be alert; the reminder extends to locals near the construction area to stay cautious whether they’re driving, walking, or biking.
If your daily route includes this stretch of I-10, you'll want to stay informed about the closure schedule and adjust accordingly. According to the official announcement, the lane will be unavailable at various points throughout that time window, so planning ahead would be wise.
DOTD is asking for everyone's cooperation during this time. "DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment," the department stated.
