Heads up, Surprise residents and visitors: night owls and late-night commuters need to prepare for a series of lane restrictions on one of the city's arterial roadways. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, US 60 (Grand Avenue) is slated to undergo overnight lane narrowing, beginning July 7. This is part of ongoing work on improvements at the Loop 303/US 60 and US 60/163rd Avenue interchanges, as per the City of Surprise.
The construction, which is set to persist each night until 5 a.m. and wrap up on the morning of July 11, will affect east- and westbound Grand Avenue traffic between 163rd Avenue and Loop 303. Drivers should expect to slowly merge into one lane, as the typically more open road constricts to accommodate the crews on the ground, as reported by the City of Surprise.
In addition to lane restrictions on US 60, drivers will see narrowed off-ramps from both directions of Loop 303 at Grand Avenue—down to one left-turn and one right-turn lane. Southbound drivers on 163rd Avenue turning left onto eastbound Grand Avenue will also have just one turn lane. Northbound traffic on 163rd Avenue at Grand Avenue will be reduced to a single lane as well, as stated by the City of Surprise.
