The Las Cruces public art scene is set to grow a little larger with the introduction of a vibrant new mural at the Youth Development and Diversion facility. The City Art Board and Las Cruces Public Art extend an open invitation to the community to the dedication ceremony scheduled for July 10, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., located at 814 N. Tornillo Street, in the facility's parking lot.
The mural, a collaborative tapestry woven by the artistic guidance of Jesus "Cimi" Alvarado, is a new landmark made possible through the City’s Public Art Program. Its creation was a collective effort, with over 70 community members lending their hands and hearts to the piece. The final design, born out of public input events and City Art Board suggestions, is imbued with symbols of growth, transformation, and creativity, a visual testimony to the community’s collective spirit.
The City of Las Cruces highlights the involvement of local citizens in bringing this artwork to life. During the ceremony, attendees will get a chance to shake hands with artist Jesus “Cimi” Alvarado and mingle with the individuals who played a role in the mural's creation. The event promises not just a feast for the eyes but also light refreshments for the palate.
