
Tragedy struck a quiet neighborhood in Las Cruces on Tuesday when a couple was found dead in what authorities are investigating as a possible murder-suicide. According to the Las Cruces Police Department, police and fire departments were called to a residence on the 2200 block of Sun Chaser Place in the Sonoma Ranch area shortly after 4 p.m.
Upon arriving at the home, officers discovered two individuals, a man and a woman, both with gunshot wounds. Dead at the scene were Raymond Gonzales, age 69, and Michelle Gonzales, age 57, a couple identified as the homeowners. Having called to the scene, the final determination regarding the cause of death will be made by the New Mexico Medical Investigator’s office.
As of now, details surrounding the circumstances of the deaths remain limited, and the investigation is ongoing. Neighbors have expressed shock and disbelief at the news, describing the Sonoma Ranch neighborhood as typically peaceful and close-knit. The once still streets now bear the weight of a community grappling with unexpected loss and unanswered questions.
