Following a private fireworks display in Leadwood, Missouri, last Friday night, local fire officials are now addressing the concerning disappearance of a hazardous firework. Fox2Now reports that after the explosion, which resulted in injuries to six individuals, responders conducting a safety sweep the next day discovered a live mortar-style firework in Leadwood City Park only to find it missing moments later.
The situation escalated when the explosive, deemed dangerous and fit only for professional hands by fire officials went missing, with two teenagers seen in the vicinity failing to vacate the area when instructed and shortly after the explosive vanished, the cause of the initial explosion that led to six people being injured, including an elderly woman now in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital, remains under investigation according to KSDK.
The injured individuals were promptly tended to, with five sustaining minor burn injuries and the aforementioned elderly woman sustaining a head injury from a fall, as First Alert 4 recounted. The Leadwood Fire Protection District responded with nine firefighters to handle the emergency.
The missing mortar has prompted an advisory for public caution. Authorities have instructed the public to avoid touching any suspicious objects and to call 911 immediately. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on preventing further incidents.
